Will charge for use of my imagination

If you want me to look at your world upside down then pay me

I know my value and that's not enough, i don't think I've ever said that to someone I'm working for. Working within the creative industry seems to have some blurred lines around getting paid. I've worked for free to gain experiences and this has been priceless to me, I actually found out what I didn't want to do during this period of my life. I've often had said to me can I just have a conversation with you, just wanted some advice. Three hours later I've re branded their business given tips on how to increase their social media following, came up with ideas to take their brand further. For free, that's right #gifted it never crossed their mind to pay me because my ideas, visions and opinions flow so freely from my mind. I'm more than happy to help others, I love to see people get confident and excited over something that was challenging them but where's the line? A study showed freelancers in the creative industries lose £5,394 each a year through working for free. Clearly the line is a dot to many.

Maybe this comes down to not thinking your work is good enough or feeling like a fraud to ask to be paid for something that can (some days) flow so easily. Many creative people need to get more confident in what they can bring to the table, what would the world look like without the dreamers? Visionaries? I've had to step up my self talk around this, I lacked the confidence to believe that I was good let alone to think I was worth paying. Creatives need to step up their game and believe in the work they produce. Every industry would be completely fucked without a creative involved at some point. Just look around you, branding is absolutely everywhere from the adverts you see on the tv to all social networks down to the websites you visit. Art is  surrounding us, inspiring us, fashion and styling is getting you excited to get dressed. You can smell a good creatives work a mile off. It reeks with awesomeness. I was created to create, I struggle to tolerate reality so if you want to use a bit of my magic then pay me. *high fives *
